When I was in graduate school, I met this guy named Scott. Scott… or Scotty as we called him was super sharp. Super smart. Super driven. Super focused. He was maniacally obsessed with performance in everything that he did.
Scotty and I had similar class schedules and we’d workout everyday after which we would go grab dinner. I got to spend a lot of time with Scotty and every time I was with him, I just found that I only ordered healthy foods. It was just not worth dealing with Scotty’s lecture. And he had no shame. He would lecture me, or you, or the person at the table next to us that ordered a basket of onion rings. I just didn’t want to hear it. So I just ordered a super healthy meal every time.
But when I was not with Scotty, I would very easily fall off the wagon and convince myself it was okay to slip a bit. But recently I did an experiment… instead of putting all kinds of rules on myself about what I could and couldn’t order, I just asked myself… WWSD – what would Scotty do? That gave me a simple enough filter to say yes or no to things on the menu.
